This course was designed to help early stage biotech leaders understand what it means to be a manager and learn the key principles and practices for success in the role.

In this course you will:

  • Develop frameworks for best management practices on a range of topics relevant for startups

Welcome session

Join Jaye Goldstein in a 30-minute live Zoom session to understand course objectives, get comfortable with the platform, and meet other participants.

Session 1: Great Management + Psychological Safety

Learn about what separates good from great managers and how the key to everything is creating a safe work environment for all.

Session 2: Organizational structures + motivation

Understand common organizational structures for early stage biotech companies and how to motivated people on your team.

Session 3: Onboarding, offboarding, and positivity

Gain strategies for successfully and scalably bringing on top talent and effectively removing people when necessary. We’ll balance it off by talking about the power of positivity to achieve business results.

Session 6: Culture, change + clarity

Culture is one of the most powerful levers you have to align your team. We’ll talk about how to define and live by shared values, how to manage change on your team, and how to be clear about just about everything.

Session 4: Self + project management + success

In this session, we’ll learn how to optimize your own productivity and get the right stuff done well - and on time - with your team. We’ll find ways to measure success.

Session 5: Language, bias + support

Learn how to interrupt bias realtime on your team. We’ll talk about how to truly help your direct reports succeed with support.

  • 1.5 hours total. You can expect 1 hour of learning on your own with our pre-recorded content plus 30 minutes for the live Zoom sessions with Jaye each week. The pre-recorded sessions are designed in small 10-20 minute segments to help you find tiny opportunities to learn the content throughout your busy week.

  • The online learning component are pre-recorded mini lectures Jaye has created to fast-track your learning. There are optional activities and reflections for you to explore if your’e interested.

  • This course was designed for first-time leaders and managers of early stage biotech, climate tech, and tough-tech companies. This course is best suited for folks who are about to scale early stage teams. It is totally OK to come and learn in advance of hiring.

  • During the live sessions, Jaye will answer questions that came up about the week's curriculum. The group will also do a case study together. Participants should also feel free to bring issues to troubleshoot from their own organizations.
